Team Policies

Training

  1. All school and AIA policies will be enforced to their full extent. No exceptions.
  2. Note from doctor or teacher only excuse for missing or late to practice other than family emergency. Other sports not an excuse.
  3. Training will be Monday-Friday 2:45-4:45 P.M. for all teams except game days. Preseason at McDonald Park starts at 2:45. Players should be dressed and ready to train at 2:40 P.M. Coach must be notified at least 2 days prior to doctor/dentist appointments. Do not schedule appointments during practices/games when possible.
  4. Freshmen are responsible for bringing water and ice to the practice field. When freshmen have a game it is the responsibility of the Junior Varsity.
  5. Players are required to wear at training:
    • Sabino practice jerseys
    • Black soccer shorts
    • Black or white soccer socks
    • Polished soccer boots
    • Shin guards

Absolutely no club soccer uniforms, socks, or training gear whatsoever!  They are divisive. We are Sabino Soccer. Period.

  1. No fighting
  2. No swearing
  3. No insubordination
  4. Must show respect for your teammates
  5. Students having academic difficulty and/or with eligibility issues will bring signed weekly progress reports from teachers to coach on a weekly basis.
  6. Players who are academically in difficulty/ineligible will stay after school every day to get extra help or get caught up, and then come to practice.
  7. Injured players must receive treatment for injury prior to game/training. Injured players must attend practice/games.

Practice and Game Discipline Policy

Weekly

  1. One excused missed practice or game – player cannot start the next game
  2. One unexcused missed practice – player does not play the 1st half of next game
  3. Two missed practices (one excused, one unexcused) player does not play half.
  4. Two unexcused missed practices or games – player suspended for one game.
  5. Three unexcused missed practices in one week – player dismissed from team.

Monthly

  1. 3 unexcused missed practices or games in any one month – player suspended one game.
  2. 5 missed practices of any kind – player suspended one game.
  3. 6 unexcused missed practices or games – player dismissed from team.

There are no appeals on suspensions

Game Day

  1. Players at all levels must wear team polo, slacks (no jeans), dress socks, dress shoes (no tennis shoes) or player does not play one half. Players must check-in with the athletic department on game days.
  2. Bus behavior on away matches: players stay in seats at all times. 10 minutes before arrival at a match, players are silent to reflect on upcoming match. Players must be on bus on time or bus leaves. No exceptions other than doctor or teacher note or tangible proof of vehicle failure.
  3. Home games: players are in locker room dressed and ready 45 minutes prior to game time or players will not start. No exceptions other than doctor or teacher note or tangible proof of vehicle failure.
  4. No fighting

  6. No insubordination – allow yourself to be coached
  7. Show respect for your teammates
  8. During a match any player who commits any type of verbal dissent at opposing coach, player, fan, or referee will be removed from the game and will not start the next. Two such incidents will result in either an extended suspension or removal from the team (coach’s discretion).
  9. Proper uniform and game gear is worn (boots polished). Uniform care and condition is solely the responsibility of the player. All uniforms are to be brought to all games cleaned and in good condition.
  10. Students must follow all CATS WIN guidelines and be aware/signed off on these guidelines.
  11. Students must obtain appropriate pass from athletic department if they have an excused absence or have wrongfully been labeled as absent or players will not be able to play.
  12. All players must ride to and from games on the provided TUSD busses. This includes all varsity, junior varsity players, and JV-B players. This policy is designed to help build team unity as well as assure for student safety.
  13. In the case of out of town regional and state tournament play, students may be allowed to ride with parents depending on circumstances. All students and parents are asked to fill out the TUSD Interscholastic Athletic Transportation Form so that they may be on file in case of transportation concerns or emergencies that may arise throughout the season.

Fan Behavior

In accordance with TUSD guidelines and AIA rules and regulations, inappropriate fan behavior will not be tolerated. Fans who cannot conduct themselves properly will be asked by administration to leave the school property.

The following are the guidelines that will be followed:

  1. There will be no name calling or harassment of a player, coach or spectator by anyone.
  2. There will be no name calling or harassment of the referee, assistant referee or other officials by anyone.
  3. There will be no swearing.

The coaches are available to discuss your concerns, but please wait until an appropriate time for discussion. Immediately before or after a game is not a good time to voice your concerns.
